West Coast Swing Playlist for Summer 2014

Share

If you’re like me, you’re always looking for new music to add to your West Coast Swing playlist, and there is never a better time of year for dancing (and pool parties) than Summer! With Liberty Swing, Sin City Swing, 4th of July in Phoenix, Sea and Sun Swing in France in the past month, it’s prime time for soaking up good tunes in the sun and heating up the dance floor.

Today’s playlist offers some well known songs, but also a handful of things I’ve run across that aren’t being played… yet! It’s definitely heavy on the R&B tracks, but there’s also a remake, a country jam, and even a boy band thrown in for good measure. Check these out and enjoy…

August’s WCS song list:

Charli Boom Clap
Mapei Don’t Wait
Milky Chance Stolen Dance
MAGIC! Rude (Acoustic)
Tyga & Justin Beiber Wait For a Minute
Jasmine Thompson Ain’t Nobody
Eric Bellinger I Don’t Want Her
SoMo Show Off (This one is slow, but worth it)
Chris Brown Stuck On Stupid
Sebastian Mikael feat. Wale Last Night
Danity Kane Lemonade
Tinashe 2 On
John Hart KTYS
Mayer Hawthorne Crime
KONGOS Come with me Now
Sam Hunt Leave the Night On (Country Song)
Jermih Don’t Tell ‘Em  (Be sure to get the clean version if you are a DJ)
Jason Derulo Wiggle
Ingrid Michaelson One Night Town
Little Mix Word Up!
Tich Dumb
Charlie Brown On My Way
The Wanted We Own the Night

Bonus track if you want a challenge: (It’s fast, but has a great groove)
Klingande Jubel

Sorry, no Blues West Coast Swing songs this time, but more on the way in the future!

Old School R&B West Coast Swing Songs

Share

I was recently taking a walk down memory lane on YouTube and before I knew it I was reliving the great R&B and Soul music that dominated the radio and the dance floor in the late 80’s and early 90’s.

What I didn’t realize for a moment is how much of this genre is West Coast Swing dance music and how badly I’d love to dance to it. Some of them are classic WCS music and others are songs I’d never had a chance to dance to before…

As such, I thought I’d share a few of the songs I found in this short list of some of the best West Coast Swing dance music from decades ago (just in time for valentine’s day):

West Coast Swing R&B Playlist:
New Edition If It Isn’t Love
TLC Baby, Baby, Baby
Montell Jordan This Is How We Do It
Shai If I Ever Fall in Love
Maxwell Sumthin’ Sumthin’
Maxwell Get To Know Ya
Joe If I Was Your Man
Keith Sweat Twisted
112 Cupid
112 Peaches ‘n’ Cream
Baby Bash feat. Frankie J Suga Suga
Usher U Remind Me
R Kelly Step In the Name of Love
R Kelly Your Body’s Calling
Candyman Knockin’ Boots
Lighter Shade of Brown Homies

Good Music to Learn West Coast Swing

Share

My girlfriend, JesAnn Nail, and I had a chance to teach some West Coast Swing workshops in Spain over the Summer and we had a blast. However, because WCS is so new in Spain it’s taking a lot of work to get the dance going and make it accessible for more people.

As a result, a friend from Valencia / Madrid asked me for good music to learn West Coast Swing so that he could use it to teach some beginners. So I’ve put together a WCS playlist that has a bunch of slower songs. (Most under 100 BPM)

I’ve purposely included blues, contemporary, acoustic, and other popular styles of West Coast Swing music to give a variety of songs and grooves for leaning the dance. (Many of them are not from 2013)

Feel free to comment or add to this list…

Slower West Coast Swing Dance Songs:

Sade By Your Side
India Arie Back to the Middle
Jordan Sparks No Air
John Mayer Fool to Love You
James Morrison Man in the Mirror (Acoustic)
Mario Vazquez Gallery
Mario Let Me Love You
Rihanna & Drake What’s My Name?
Solomon Burke Got to Get You Off My Mind
Ray LaMontagne Three More Days
John Mayer Slow Dancing In A Burning Room (very slow)
John Mayer Something Like Olivia
Ernie Halter Cyclone
Powerful Stuff Sean Hayes
One Republic Good Life
Ne-Yo Sexy Love
Maroon 5 Sunday Morning
Lorde Royals
Eve 6 Here’s To The Night
Drake Hold On, We’re Going Home
